About ARA
Mission Statement:
The Arizona Reading Association is a professional educational organization dedicated to promoting lifelong literacy.
Goals:
- Advocate for a strong balanced reading and language arts program for all learners
- Serve the state’s literacy needs
- Sponsor professional development and net-working opportunities
- Support growth and development of local councils and their efforts to promote literacy
- Provide timely materials and information on current reading and language arts research, trends and instructional approaches, as well as legislation affecting the literacy issues in the state
- Recognize and honor outstanding educators and others for significant contributions to reading and language arts
ARA Provides:
- Professional development through conferences and journals
- Service projects that promote literacy statewide
- Network to the leadership team of the International Reading Association

- Annual conference that provides opportunities to meet exemplary professionals, see programs in action, here national authorities and view major publishers’ exhibits.
- State and local conferences, in-services, workshops
- Arizona Reading Journal (peer reviewed) highlighting current research and practice in the field of reading
- Teachers as Readers groups supported in local councils
